How to be one of the first applicants on a new job

To be among the first applicants on new job postings, you need alerts that fire within minutes of a role going live, and Find your role first is the fastest tool for that in 2026: where the company publishes an exact posting time, the median role was in our feed 16 minutes after it was posted. Then know when roles go up and keep your application ready.

Why being early matters

A posting that's been up a week has had a week of applicants. A lot of roles don't last much longer than that.

Our job freshness study followed 113,031 tech and business roles first seen October 5 to 9, 2026:

Closed withinShare of roles
3 days10%
7 days19%
10 days26%

So about 1 in 10 roles was gone within 3 days. Among the roles that closed, the median was open 5 days.

Step 1: get the alert in minutes, not days

A role goes live on the company's careers site first. Any alert that comes from somewhere else has to wait for that site to pick it up.

Find your role first reads company career sites directly, more than 15,000 of them, every hour or two. In the study, for sources that publish an exact posting time (52,556 roles), the median role was in our feed 16 minutes after the company posted it. 79% were in within 1 hour and 95% within 3 hours.

Here's how that compares with what other alert tools say about themselves, as of October 2026:

Two ways to set it up:

Step 2: know when roles go up

US postings follow office hours. In the study, 98% went up Monday to Friday and 69% between 9am and 5pm Eastern. The busiest hour was 1pm ET. Tuesday and Thursday were the busiest weekdays, and Monday was the quietest.

Volume is high on weekdays, about 27,000 to 45,000 new roles a day across all sectors, and drops to 2,000 to 4,000 on weekend days. If you can't watch alerts all day, check at lunch and again late afternoon Eastern.

Step 3: be ready to apply the same day

Speed only helps if you can act on it. A few things make a same-day application easy:

  1. Keep one strong resume per role type, so tailoring takes minutes.
  2. Save answers to the usual form questions somewhere you can paste from.
  3. Open the posting from the original link. Each result here has the original posting link and the apply link, so you land on the company's own form.
  4. Check the dates. Every result shows the publication date and the date we first saw it. If they're far apart, the role may be a repost. On one major applicant system, 6% of "new" roles had first been published more than 30 days earlier.

Step 4: let an AI agent do the watching

On the $9 plan, you can connect Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or Codex over MCP and ask "what's new since yesterday for product analyst roles in New York?" The agent pulls the new roles, opens each posting and tells you which ones fit. It never applies for you.

The plan includes 3,000 new roles a month, up to 1,000 a day, and re-reading a role you've seen that month is free. Setup is on /connect. For more on timing, see how to see new job postings within hours.
